Mikeyla featuring the Metal Forces - EP
Glorious
July 2006
Released: 2006, Pama Records/Universal Rating: 2.5/5 Reviewer: Anders Sandvall The World Cup in Soccer has kicked off in Germany, and just in time for the games Pama Records released this championship EP with their new find, Mikeyla. To support her she brought along the elite in the metal business at the moment (check out the line-up to see who is featured), and it's thanks to them the song passed through my narrow lens. "Glorious" is written by Joacim Cans (Hammerfall), Uli Kusch (Masterplan, ex-Helloween), and Ronny Milianowicz (Dionysus). The writers say that this is a song that takes your mind off all the differences between people and unites them in a way that only music and sports can, and "Glorious" is addressed to all the hardrock/soccer fans worldwide. The EP contains "Glorious" in three different versions. The best one is the solid metal version; the other ones are pretty lame and the karaoke version shouldn't even be featured. The original version sounds like an ordinary and catchy tune. It's grand and majestic with a really catchy chorus that won't leave you alone. The solid metal version is still sung by Mikeyla, and it sounds like she got help in the verses on lead vocals by Ralf Scheepers and Tobias Sammet. "Calling" is the name of the third song featured on the EP. It's a song in mid-tempo with nothing much going on. Maybe it's meant to be a taste of what Mikeyla sounds like on her own, but I must say she makes a really pale impression. To be nice I say that "Calling" is an easily forgotten melodic rock song in mid-tempo. There's also a video documentary added, but what that is I’ll leave to the listener to find out. The major positive thing about GLORIOUS is that the entire metal elite have gathered to make something together, but that is also the only great thing. At the end of the day this is a good chant song to listen to when your team is playing but after the championship you'll probably put the EP in the back of your CD rack.
