Made of Iron
Made of Iron
March 2005
Released: 2004, Sonic Age Records
Rating: 4.0/5

A German band that was actually formed by two Greek guys (!), the story of Made of Iron is one that is very typical amongst many metal bands. Formed in 1999 as an Iron Maiden cover band (their use of the classic Iron Maiden font persisted on demos until this release), they eventually decided to strike out on their own as songwriters and fresh blood to the true heavy metal ranks. The rest is history, as the band has been steadily working to release this, MADE OF IRON, their debut full-length.

Though the band may have stopped covering Iron Maiden’s songs, they could certainly take jobs writing them FOR their British idols, as this disc is nothing more (or less) than 48 minutes of Iron Maiden worship, beginning to end. Everything from the vocals, to the melodic twin guitars (actually just one guy), to the galloping bass lines, to the strangely powerless production, everything you love about Eddie’s boys is here.

Whether that is good enough for you is another question all together, but all I can say is that I have a hell of a good time listening to this album! Made of Iron exude an excitement for true metal that hasn’t been heard from Iron Maiden since the early 80’s. Sure, there’s nothing new going on here, but if a song like “Made of Iron” doesn’t get your fist pumping and your head banging, you do not deserve to be listening to metal in the first place.

Your mileage may vary on this, based on your love of traditional heavy metal, but for fans this is a no-brainer. Give them a good listen (download “Fight for the Cross” from their record label) and you will not be disappointed.
