Mercilless
Possessed by Thrash (demo)
January 2010
Released: 2007, Self-released Rating: 3.0/5 Reviewer: Luxi Lahtinen It´s incredible how many thrash metal bands can come from one country – and in this case I mean specifically Brazil, and not the Bay Area, U.S.A. Brazil is a real promised land for countless killer old school thrash metal bands as we all know it by now. It all started from bands like Vulcano, Chakal, Attomica, Mutilator, Korzus, and especially Sepultura – and since then the Brazilian thrash boom been continued by new thrash forces such as Violator, Bywar, Eternal Devastation, Devil on Earth, Farscape, BreaKdowN, Bomb Threat, Hell Bullet, etc. Feel free to add Mercilless (now Deathraiser) from Leopoldina, Minas Gerais, to the same list of worth checking out Brazilian thrash bands as well. Mercilless (or Deathraiser; they changed their name to the current name in 2009 due to too many bands with that Merciless name in the world), that is now a recording band for the Spanish Xtreem Music, sent me recently their 4-track 2007 POSSESSED BY THRASH demo – and all I can say about it, they truly are possessed by thrash if anything else at all. Musically, Mercilless (or Deathraiser) cherishes the evergreen heritage of both US and Teutonic old school thrash ála Slayer, Exodus, Kreator, Destruction and so on – keeping things simple but still interesting and appealing enough to turn some ears to their side. Their thrash is all about simplicity and old school-ness. So is this review. Remember to keep it short, simple and old school – and oh boy it works. :o) ![]()
