Medo
Materia Negra
January 2012
Released: 2011, Independent
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: Metal-Rules.com UK Team

Medo are form Portugal and were formed in 2006 with the two members simply calling themselves Medo 1 and Medo 2, with the members clearly being inspired by everything dark, satanic, and unholy.

The first intro track beginning with the evil sounds, growls and screams of what I assume to be some kind of ritual just made me want to press the fast-forward button a few times, but once past this, the album does kick in, but after every great track you will be thrown back into the sounds of more horror screams and growls. I love my dark satanic ritual black metal so there was no surprise I loved this album. There are some great sounds, but I do feel there is something missing with this band…although I’m not sure what it is.

I really loved the tracks ‘You Will Never Burn All The Witches’ and Trabalho De Magia Negra (Segundo S. Cipriano) which are amazing and have the essence of pure black metal, as well as track 06. Mistйrio Da Nau Da Morte, which shows the bands musical talent and apparently they use real tools instead of keyboards to make a lot of the weird and wonderful sounds you hear. I loved what the guys are doing here and have captured the pure dirty darkness of black metal making the whole album sound like a satanic ritual/incantation, but I was disappointed with the repetitive drumming.

The chanting in this album does go on a bit, but with more aggression in some of the tracks and shortening of the non musical album moments really would really make this album great and sound less like a really bad dodgy old horror movie, cause there really are some great tracks in there!
