Maxx12
Special Forces
September 2014
Released: 2014, NEXCORP Records
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: Celtic Bob

Maxx12 are an interesting group of four individuals. The album borders on Metal at times while most of it is solid Hard Rock. A very difficult disc to classify or to categorize into a particular genre. After a few listens I still cannot pinpoint it. I can determine that it is an enjoyable listen each and every time I pop the disc into a player.

The mostly Hard Rock disc is heavy on melody with some really great guitar playing. There is even some Spanish styled Classical guitar supplying the intro to “Hell’s Heroes”. A nice surprise towards the end of the album before ending with the Ronnie Montrose produced track “Mongoose”.

Overall an enjoyable disc to listen to that has some Metal elements to it while remaining a Melodic Hard Rock release. This is the closest you can get to being genre specific as there is just about something here for everyone as cliche as that sounds. Some great musicianship and writing make this effort a strong product in a heavily competitive business.
