Marys Creek
Some Kind of Hate
April 2007
Released: 2007, MTM Music/Zink Music
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

Mats Nilsson is the founder and lead singer of this new Swedish act. The work on demos began when the band had a full line-up in 2004. Besides making demos, the band has also played with Uriah Heep and From Behind. At the end of 2005 they started work on the debut album which is the album being reviewed now. The album is chock-full of harder melodic hard rock that sounds totally perfect in my opinion. The entire album is a feast of well-played and technical music, skilled musicians, and great material. There’s nothing big to remark upon when it comes to SOME KIND OF HATE.

A few of my favorite tracks that are “A Little Bit Of Everything”, “Down”, “She”, “Things That You Do”, “I Can Feel It”, “New Religion”, “Hold On”, and “Some Kind of Hate”, which as you can see is a long list of great tracks. Nilsson has a unique voice, which not only separates him from other singers but that also works perfectly with the music and the production. Guitarist Bobby Ho is a genius; it sounds like that man can play everything from heavy riffs to slower and beautiful guitar parts.

When it comes to the production there’s nothing more to say than brilliant. Producer Fredrik Nordström and Studio Fredman are names that you know will prove to have a perfect or even better outcome, as is definitely the case here.

Mary’s Creek is definitely a name to remember in the future if you’re into darker melodic hard rock. If you don’t believe me, go out and buy SOME KIND OF HATE and crank up the volume in order to fully enjoy this brilliant album. The only thing that I think speaks against Mary’s Creek is the band name and the cover artwork of the album, but don’t get scared by that – go buy this album right away!
