Marty Friedman
Exhibit A: Live In Europe
October 2008
Released: 2008, Mascot Records
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: Celtic Bob

Former Megadeth guitarist hits us with a killer live disc that is sure to satisfy each and every metal guitarist out there. Friedman was a well known player before his stint with Megadeth and now he has returned to what made him known in the first place.

Instrumental are relatively boring for non players as they usually concentrate on one instrument; the guitar in this case. While Marty is an amazing player the songs come off as a bit too self indulgent and have a tendency to gel together for the most part. This is definitely not the case when it comes to the track “Elixir” which sounds like it came off of RUST IN PEACE. The riffs are fast and heavy and have quite a similarity to songs on that album. Maybe this is the only way he can play stuff from that era of his career? This is followed up by your typical guitar songs until the end when Marty takes a try at singing the old Elvis classic “Hound Dog”. He really kicks this rocker up a notch and lets loose without making it indecipherable from the original. The vocals are not too shabby so maybe he’ll add in a vocal track or two on his next release.

A good live recording with a little something for everyone. A little over the top in places but that is to be expected but for the most part a decent live recording.
