Mandragora Scream
Fairy tales from Hell`s Caves
October 2001
Released: 2001, Caipiranha Records
Rating: 2.5/5
Reviewer: El Cid

I don’t know what it is, but I simply can’t digest this CD. A lot of people recommended it to me and told me it was a great revitalizing of the Goth metal genre so I assumed “we’ve got Crematory’s successor to the throne”… Alas, it totally fails to make me feel … well anything. If anything maybe I fail to comprehend the strange melodies there Italians put into a CD, and thus I can’t recognize their brilliance but to be honest I don’t know if any of you out there would be able to digest their work as artistic to a point where you can’t even call it metal because it never gets heavy or extremely fast, or evil or anything, I just think it’s void of emotion.

The only light of hope I find in the entire CD is “Fire Tear Drop” which is extremely melodic and has a very nice vocal work to it that makes it stand out from the rest of this otherwise empty album.

I don’t know if it’s me or what, but I’d recommend you avoid this album unless you are curious or prepared for a very weird ride.
