January 2011
Released: 2010, Eonian Records
Rating: 4.0/5

There is a new, young upstart label on the block and they are called Eonian Records. This US based label is specializing in melodic late 80’s, early 90’s American Melodic Metal and Hard Rock. They have put out a batch of great albums and over the next three months (March-May, 2011) we are going to look at nine of their most recent releases. This month (April, 2011) we will take a look at the bands Legacy, Sgt. Roxx and Shake City. Please feel free to check out the other reviews in this series.

Legacy is a Christian Metal band and some people have a problem with that. I’ve never had an issue with that. Some Christian bands might get a bit preachy lyrically, but fortunately that is not an issue with these guys. Legacy are certainly in the ‘metal’ camp, and will fit nicely next to your Stryper, Shout, Mass and Recon albums. Vocalist Doug Meacham leads the charge and has excellent, range, power, control and delivery! He hits some killer high notes without straining. The guitars are pretty fierce at times as well. People who slag Christian bands as ‘weak’ or whatever don’t really listen to the quality of the performances, something Stryper struggled with for many years. The songs are well-arranged, not too complex, room to breath and come chorus time they always crank it up a notch.

I’m impressed at how good the production is! It’s crystal clear and razor sharp and ahead of some of the other collections of demos and EP’s on the Eonian roster. Of course, the label presents a gorgeous package, with the traditional band history, photos, and even a track-by-track explanation of the songs. Legacy is one of the better Christian Metal bands I have heard over the years.

Join us again in May for reviews of more Eonian artists, Sweet Sybil, Uzi and Wanted.
