Lady Killer
Lady Killer
November 2017
Released: 2017, Heaven and Hell Records
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: Robert Williams

The self-titled album by NYC based Lady Killer was originally released in August of 1982 and featured nine tracks of pure, unadulterated NY steel. North Carolina's finest indie label Heaven and Hell records recently reissued for the first time on CD the debut self-titled album fully remastered by Jamie King at The Basement Studios along with five never before heard bonus tracks originally intended for a follow up album that would never see the light of day.

What you get with Lady Killer is a hard rockin' slab of early eighties American heavy metal. The lyrics are heavily cliched (the bonus track "Rock You Hard" being a prime example), the delivery is over the top and musically you could easily imagine sandwiching Lady Killer onto a bill with fellow early NY metal bands like Riot, Twisted Sister or The Rods. Sadly the self-titled debut would be Lady Killer's lone release as the band broke up while recording their second album which was being produced by guitarist Mitch Perry (Steeler, MSG, Lita Ford).

For the fans that bought this album back in the day and might have wondered what ever became of Lady Killer the real treat on this reissue is the bonus tracks. Keep in mind that the bonus tracks feature a different vocalist named Joe Zettle who offers a more operatic multi octave vocal approach than that of his predecessor K.K. Burns. The 12 panel inlay features plenty of band photos, lyrics and album credits. Oddly enough there is not a lengthy written forward summing up the bands career as is usually included in Heaven and Hell reissues.

All in all, an enjoyable and informative trip down memory lane as we've come to expect from Heaven and Hell Records who have dusted off plenty of long lost metal gems over the years. This kind of release obviously appealing to collectors more than anyone. If you're looking to be introduced to a long forgotten classic metal record or are an even rarer long lost fan looking to secure this on CD for the first time, this release is right up your alley.
