Lipstixx 'N' Bulletz
Bang Your Head
March 2010
Released: 2010, Sleaszy Rider Records
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Alan Gilkeson

About as far away from the Hollywood Strip and The Whiskey as logistically possible, Lipstixx 'N' Bulletz's 80s L.A. inspired brand of Glam Metal at first glance may appear a bit cornball and jokey. However, take the time to spin this thing and the first thing you'll notice is that they aren't shenanigans at all. In fact quite the opposite, Lipstixx 'N' Bulletz, be they a throwback, have here a quite galvanized piece, a collection of some really well written songs.

Within the first thirty seconds of album opener 'Bang Your Head' there's not only a clear retro vibe, but an obvious penchant for old school 80s styled riffs in the vein of early L.A. Guns (an oft forgotten and unrecognized great band). But more importantly, there's a few tunes on here that are just so good they may have been huge hits twenty plus years ago. 'Do or Die' and 'Be Mine Tonight' rock through some awesome crescendos to chorus with song along power, and that's where the power of the record lay, thick chunky choruses. Also digging the dirty lead vocal evocative of the guy from Britney Fox or even Michael Monroe.

Scared to travel back in time? Don't be. BANG YOUR HEAD is about as pleasant a surprise as there has been in the past few years, a record unapologetically lost in the netherworld of yesteryear, it forces you to take it at face value. And thrown into the fire with all of the stuff you might have listened to in the 80s, Lipstixx 'N' Bulletz certainly stand on their own merits in that playing field.
