Lillian Axe
Three Days Before Tomorrow
May 2012
Released: 2012, XI: The Days Before Tomorrow Rating: 5.0/5 Reviewer: Metal-Rules.com UK Team I’ll be totally honest until I received the review copy of Lillian Axe I had never heard of them before, much my eternal shame I have been told. A little digging shows this hard rock ban formed back in the 80’s and this is their 11th album. Wow, colour me ashamed. After some back digging this album seems to be in the vein of their previous ones, big anthemic riffs, quasi prog-rock in places with rock solid playing though out, but fans of their 80’s work may still be disappointed. The new singer seems to be finding his feet quiet well, he is the third singer and the band has had so many countless line up changes it’s hard to tell how much of the original band is left apart from in spirit. The biggest compliant I can find with this album is that it can feel a little bit preachy in places, which is always a possibility when dealing with this genre. The guitars absolutely wail at times and provide large sweeping grand sounds when needed. Its as tight as you’d expect from a band with such a long lineage and the production is slick. The title track, Babylon, opens as the album means to go on, with Lava On My Tongue being another stand out track. I’d find it hard not to recommend it if you like hard rock with an 80’s throw back sound. Review by: Neurie ![]()
