Kelly Simonz’s Blind Faith
SIGN OF THE TIMES
July 2002
Released: 2002, Lion Music Rating: 3.0/5 Reviewer: Pete SIGN OF THE TIMES is 12 tracks of AOR melodic hard rock fronted by Japanese wiz Kelly Simonz. And I do mean wiz as Simonz did everything himself: music, lyrics, arrangements, mixed, engineered, all vocals and instruments. That is a feat in itself. As for the material that comprises SIGN OF THE TIMES, we get 12 tracks in all (5 instrumental, 7 with vocals). “Serpent In A Paradise” is a throwback to Malmsteen’s Trilogy-era with some amazing guitar playing! Also of note, “Suite in B Minor BWV1067” is a great piece in that neo-classical vein. Simonz is a monster on guitar, as evidenced on “Sign Of The Times”, featuring some great keyboards as well. Simonz is an accomplished vocalist as well, along the style of Joe Lynn Turner. “Still” is a very strong ballad where Simonz vocals shine. The CD contains 2 versions of the song “Blind Faith” - one studio, one live with the studio one being far superior. Although I’m sure it would be quite impressive to see this material performed live, especially if it’s by Simonz himself! http://www.kellysimonz.com
