Karl Sanders
Saurian Exorcism
April 2009
Released: 2009, The End Records
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: Bruce Sanchez

Throughout Nile’s history we’ve been given tiny dishes of music antiquity. The Egyptian sounds have been used like spices rubbed over death. In SAURIAN EXORCISM, Karl Sanders offers a full buffet of ancient sounds.

The entire album is cinematic in scope. The songs are full of movement and life. Ancient civilizations almost spring forth as each note bursts. SAURIAN EXORCISM isn’t just an atmospheric album though. Passages aren’t just loosely tied together to create a semi-coherent rope. Sanders’ intimate knowledge of the subject and instruments weaves a tapestry so vivid, you might expect to pull it down and be greeted by an immense dune with the sun perpetually burning the sky.

Die-hard Nile fans, or those looking for something eclectic to add to their collection, might be interested in picking this up. But those expecting to hear some death metal because Sanders is at the helm, will be severely disappointed.
