Kataklysm
Epic (The poetry of war)
October 2001
Released: 2001, Nuclear Blast
Rating: 2.5/5
Reviewer: Arto Lehtinen

The Canadian death metallers have always divided the audience to two different camps to hate and dig them. What a heck here are they once again with the brand new album Epic. On Epic these Canukcs show no mercy just letting hell on loose in the nihilistic death metal assault throughout the album in 40 minutes. They ain’t wimped out, just matured in the song writing a lot. There are more mid tempo head banging tunes like “As the glorious Weep” included as well. Of course these typical tracks with a full force ahead are a well known trademark of Kataklysm as well. Using two different kinds of vocal styles being more death metal oriented and black metal oriented definitely give a welcomed variation to the normal death grunts. But once again I gotta admit this album won’t reach any high cult status or become any milestone of the extreme metal genre, just unfortunately will disappear to the mass of several other forgotten death/black metal albums. But Kataklysm will get out on tours anyway.
