About two years ago I reviewed the debut demo CD from Germany’s Kaminari. It was a professional-sounding slab of good old fashioned melodic metal/hard rock that hit the spot at the time. Since then, the band has been touring their butts off in their homeland, and building an ever-bigger following. They’ve also managed to find time to record 5 new songs and package them together with the songs off of their first demo to form FARADAY’S DREAM – their debut full-length.

I’m very pleased to report that the band has gotten better since I heard them last, as the material kicks as much ass as the demo. “Vampire Vanity” is a groovy, sleazy mid-paced rocker that shows off both Roland Seidel’s unique vocals, the great riffs that these guys are capable of writing, and Bernd Wick’s guitar pyrotechnics. The lyrics, like most of the album, are a bit silly but that is to be expected to a certain extent for bands like this. After all, it’s all about how much it rocks, and there is no doubt that Kaminari rocks!

There are a few moments that don’t quite match the excitement of awesome headbangers like “Fire and Dice” (still their best song). “Halfway to Heaven” is a bit off-putting, but still a serviceable ballad. And I have to admit that I don’t see why the band chose “My Black Colors” as their “flagship” song, so to speak. It’s not half as cool as the rest of the stuff on this disc!

All in all, I’m extremely pleased with the progress that Kaminari has made. If you’re a fan of melodic metal at all, you should definitely check these guys out. They will not disappoint.
