After hearing Iron Savior's cover of the song "Headhunter" (reviewed this month) it got me thinking about Krokus. A band who I loved up until they released that crap album Change of Address with their cover of "School's Out" on it. After hearing Iron Savior's cover of the song "Headhunter" I decided to quickly order this on CD. I have it on tape lying in some dark deep forgotten corner. Instead of digging out a dusty worn out tape, I got the CD, and let me tell ya popping this on made me think back to my school days of walking around with a walkman, riding the school bus listening to metal shutting out the world...Krokus "Headhunter" and their following album "The Blitz" were two that I played quite frequently.

Some of the music on Headhunter does sound like it's form the 80's (i.e. "Stand and be Counted") but some of these songs totally stand the test of time. The title track itself is a testament to this. The guitar sound might be a little on the early 80's side as are the drums. However if you would of recorded this CD with today's more advanced technology it would sound NEW and not dated. This album is full of metal classics. There's the already mentioned double kicking monster "Headhunter" then there is the popular "Eat the Rich" (no it's not the Motorhead version). And who could forget the classic "Screaming In The Night"??? Man....this is some memorable stuff that I haven't heard in a while! Isn't is nice to dig up something like this once in a while - something you haven't heard in years but something that as soon as you put it on you say "fuck, I remember this....this ruled!" - and it still does some 17+ years later!!! It's not hard to hear some of this bands Priest and AC/DC influences. The song "Night Wolf" starts out like an AC/DC tune, kinda like "Walk All Over You" then it picks up and sounds more like a Priest influenced tune. Great classic metal.

So thank you Iron Savior for re-kindling my interest in this band's classic material. I guess I'll have to re-buy on CD most of the classic Krokus catalog. Next on the list is The Blitz. Remember "Midnight Maniac"??? That video is forever ingrained in my mind! That must of been played on the Power Hour about 100 times!! Ah...reminiscing is sometimes fun. But hey, that's what this classic pick section is for! To look back on what was and uncover some forgotten classic METAL CD's!!! Long live METAL!!
