Jessikill
Metal Knights
March 2016
Released: 2016, Indie
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: JP

Another true Metal warrior has joined the battle between crappy music and Heavy Metal and they are Jessikill. This young band hails from San Antonio and with weapons raised and ready they have entered the fray.

The quartet, cleverly named (in part) after their lead vocalist, Jessica, have just released their debut six track EP. I say six ‘track’ not ‘song’ because there is an intro called ‘March Of The Knight’ which sets the tone nicely. METAL KNIGHTS is fairly straight-ahead Us Power Metal. There is a little bit of orchestration on one of the slower songs, ‘The Beast’ and it works very well. Elsewhere there are fingers a-blazing with some great note-dense solos by the Jyro Alejo, ably supported by Joey V. Yngwie would be proud! Even on the aforementioned song the solo is insanely ripping...almost out of place with the song, almost but not quite because as well all know, you can never have too much guitar in Metal! There is some nice acoustic guitar on the intro to the cut ‘Give It All’ which is a superb power ballad.

My favourite track is the title track with a nice vocal line delivered with enthusiasm by Jessica whose mid-range voice is very suited for this kind of classic straight-up Metal. She hits some really pretty high notes at times as well but most of the time sings lower, she has a great range. The pace is largely fast and the band seem tight and accomplished.

All my initial impressions are very favourable, this EP gives us a taste of it all fasts songs, more mid-paced songs and a great ballad. I have no hesitation in recommending Jessikill as a great new act to check out.
