I Miss My Death
In Memories
September 2014
Released: 2014, Metal Scrap Records
Rating: 2.5/5
Reviewer: UK Team

I Miss My Death are Ukrainian Gothic Doom Metal. Fronted by married couple Elena and Serge. ‘In Memories’ is their second full length release, but their first which is not self-released. Their promo artwork includes photos of the band in aristocratic period dress attempting to recreate the atmosphere of old sepia photos yet in colour.

The image hints at what they have to offer and may put some off, however I Miss My Death actually have more cross appeal than you would expect. Think a cross between Lacrimosa, Moonspell and Theatre Of Tragedy with a more overall doom guitar style. The sound is crisp and well produced which makes the listening experience easier on the ear and encourages you to listen further. Professional quality soprano vocals are accompanied by sparse male growling. It would be nice if the diction of the female vocals was clearer. I am assuming they sing in English throughout, but it is difficult to distinguish most of the lyrics making it near impossible to engage with the music fully.

Stand out track for me was 'Silence Cries'. Due to featuring more male vocals than most and having an turned down operatic black metal sound. This track takes many twists and turns in the manner may of the aforementioned Lacrimosa best works do.

Nearly every track is over 6 minutes long, mainly due to their love of long intros. You will need to drop your cheese filters to enjoy this, but if drama laden vampiric gothic metal, accompanied by strings is your thing then give I Miss My Death a listen.
