The Mutants Rise Again
Released: 2001, Horror Records
Back from the gory depths of horror hell comes the ghastliest creation this side of Alice Cooper! Impaler has stormed back with a new blood soaked ep titled THE MUTANTS RISE AGAIN. This is an orange and black swirled vinyl that contains 4 songs, 3 originals and 1 cover. The cover being "Dead Babies" from the King of Shock , Alice Cooper. The vinyl is also a limited edition release with only 666 units released and each one numbered for authenticity. The lineup is the same as their last release. Bill Lindsey: vocals, Tom Croxton: drums, Bradley J: guitars and Erik Allyn on bass. The disc kicks off with "Decayed", a bass pounding track that is the best track on the Cd. Though Impaler has a definite punk influence they also kick some serious metal ass with Bradley J adding some great leads on this track and Croxton adding a great smattering of double bass. The cover of Alice Cooper’s "Dead Babies" is well done, one of the better I have heard. I can just picture Lindsey stalking the stage covered in blood holding aloft the bloodies torso of a dead child! Evil! The CD closes with "Blood of the Vampire". Great track that more than anything else on this disc reminds me of something from an 80s slasher movie!
I know vinyl might be going the way of the Dodo bird and most of the younger metalheads out there don’t know if vinyl is fit to eat but I think that some bands just lend themselves to the medium. Impaler fits that bill. They also have a great cover art that needs to be appreciated on a slightly larger scale then a CD cover. If bloody tales of death interest you (and don’t give you nightmares) then prepare to be impaled!
