State Of Shock
Released: 2015, No Remorse Records
There are a lot of really decent Spanish Metal bands and we don’t review enough of them so I decided to review the new album by Hitten.
STATE OF SHOCK is the sophomore album by the quintet from Murcia and it can easily be categorized as a fine blend of speed Metal and Power Metal. Beginning with a really eye-catching and full-on Metal album cover these guys show they mean business. They recently signed to esteemed Greek label No Remorse Records and the production is solid, with a good mix and balance of sound.
The most significant thing I heard right away was the similarity between vocalist, Aitorr Navarro and J.D. Kimball (RIP, ex-Omen). It is a great sound and he is an excellent singer with a forceful delivery but without getting too high in his range. The guitar team of Johnny and Dani do a fine job and compliment each other well, Johnny doing a bit more lead work. The songs are conventionally written, not to many variations or surprises, but decent catchy Metal songs with some nice back up vocals like the ones heard on ‘Victim Of The Night’. The lyrics are classic Metal, again not too original but that has never bothered me to hear songs about topic such as racing, insanity, priests and betrayal. Highlights for me include the fast title track with some really nice lead work and the driving track ‘Endless Race’ with a drum-brat that reminds you of perhaps a train, something similar to ‘Radar Love’ by Golden Earring, but perhaps not coincidentally covered by Omen on their 1988 album, ESCAPE TO NOWHERE.
I like Hitten, they are entertaining and competent but I can’t imagine them setting the world on fire. STATE OF SHOCK is certainly worth checking out and owning, no doubt if you are a fan of the large and deep genre of young international bands who defend the faith and hold high the flame of classic/speed Metal.
