Hero's Last Rite
Inevitable is the End
June 2011
Released: 2010, Self Released
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Aaron Yurkiewicz

From Fredericton, New Brunswick comes Hero’s Last Rite and their debut, INEVITABLE IS THE END. Blending a barrage of dirty thrash influences from old school Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, and general awesomeness, INEVITABLE IS THE END is straightforward crunch at its best. No frills, no pleasantries, just lots of focused ass kicking.

Album opener “I Dwell Within” lays down the gauntlet pretty effectively, full of Exodus influenced, neck breaker riffs and gritty vocals snarled with broken glass. If this tune doesn’t get your blood going, check your pulse kids. The title track follows with some focused groove and strong riffs that are upbeat without sounding too positive, while “Lead (Behind My Back)” is a more measured tempo groover, with some doses of swagger behind the hostilities. The tune “Hero’s Last Rite” is my favorite of the collection here. It’s a great track that sounds like “Behind the Crooked Cross” had a baby with “Hangar 18”; it’s got melody, structure and is just an all-around stellar track. And that’s the general vibe of the album, thrash fans taking elements of what makes thrash great and using those elements to create something new. The band closes with the acoustic lament of “Bleed,” a subtler shade of the band that still fits the vibe of the album.

INEVITABLE IS THE END is a class act from start to finish, and a great debut from a talented band. And here’s the best part – it’s available as a free download through the band’s website. It’s actually a name your own price download, so feel free to throw ‘em a few Sheckles if you like what you hear. But check it out regardless, because it’s a great album and, well, it’s free. Visit the Hero’s Last Rite website to download INEVITABLE IS THE END today. Like right now, today.
