Heavenly
Sign of the Winner
October 2001
Released: 2001, Sanctuary Records / T&T Records
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: El Cid

Eh? Helloween anyone? Heavenly’s debut album COMING FROM THE SKY was a great success for the band and their record label even though they managed to convince a lot of metalheads (I was convinced) of the fact that they didn’t have an ounce of creativity in them, the album was absolutely generic power metal.

When I popped this in my CD player and listened through it I had the distinctive feeling that I was listening to KEEPER OF THE SEVER KEYS era Helloween, I was pretty shocked at the blatant way in which this band seemed to be creating a sequel to the classic Helloween album.

The album itself is not half bad, this French band follows the same path they did in the first album delivering catchy and widely arranged power metal in the European vein, showcasing fast riffing, symphonic arrangements and high pitched vocals as it’s usual in the genre. The big problem with HEAVENLY’s second album is the same as with the first one, it lacks originality if you were to put a definition of generic power metal on a dictionary, you’d use this band as an example. To sum it up, if you like power metal you’ll probably like this album, but don’t expect any groundbreaking ideas from it!
