Well, now it’s time for the Swedish four-piece act to unleash their third album. Their previous album BLACK ANTHEM came in 2005 and since then the band has gotten a new guitarist in Danny “Dee Dee” Douglas who joined in March 2008. He wasn’t a part of the band when the album was recorded so the band recorded it as a trio.
Gemini Five’s debut album is a masterpiece in the words right meaning but it didn’t get the attention it was worth. BLACK ANTHEM was darker and a little hard to comprehend at first but it’s a pretty good album. On SEX DRUGS ANARCHY the band has returned to their original sound. The music is now easy going sleaze metal with a high party factor. It compromises less, is performed great and is fun to listen to. It’s clear that the band have been influenced by RATT, W.A.S.P, Judas Priest and Cinderella to mention a few but they haven’t copied, they have borrowed in a nice way. If you’re into well played sleaze metal with lots of attitude then Gemini Five is something for you.
Guest performers on the album are Martin Sweet, Peter London and Eric Young from Crashdiet, Marcus Jidell from Royal Hunt and the legendary Kory Clark from Warrior Soul. The songs are written by Martin Sweet, Peter London, Kory Clark Tin Star and Hot Rod and the album contains 12 songs. 50 minutes of music feels solid and it doesn’t bore me at all. The quality of the songs and material are great and equal. It feels like the band has put in some really hard work into the material.
My personal killer tracks are “I Am Hollow”, “Here’s Looking At You Kid”, “All Pistols”, “Sex Drugs Anarchy”, “Lay Your Money Down”, “Here 2day Gone 2mrw”, “Something’s Gotta Give” and “Blood On The Bricks”.
The albums ballad is called “Stay With Me” and it has huge potential to be a radio hit for the band. I can’t but be impressed with SEX DRUGS ANARCHY and it feels like this is the album that can place the band within the top 5 in this genre. They sure deserve all the success they can get.
The production is just as solid as everything else on the album and it was made by Hot Rod and Tin Star. Gemini Five have now outdone themselves. This is a remarkable album.
