Gorguts
Coloured Sands
December 2013
Released: 2013, Season Of Mist
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Helias Papadopoulos

Quaintly brutal force of Canadian Gorguts released a new frantic album, COLORED SANDS. This album is a further journey into their twisted psyche. From opening track ‘Le toit du monde’ to the last ‘Reduced to Silence’, the album takes the listener as much into the deeper realms of their own mind. The abrasive and torrential technical death metal of the Canadian tormentors is blasted off with heady-heavy quickness, ready to ‘mangle’ you and it enfilades everything on its passing. This is the feeling which creeps over your humble soul when you just listen to COLORED SANDS, it just intimates you about what it is going to be next 3.771 seconds. Gorguts raises again the flag of martial damnation through the second track of the album, ‘An Ocean of Wisdom’.

The rage is spreading over and over again in the title track. The ballad form of the introduction of ‘Reduce To Silence’ juggle us, like we being little children. In this track, ‘amok’ takes you up due to the extreme rotations of speed. Unharmed and harmless because of the death ‘bombshells’ which you don’t know from where they are turning up, we are in the end of the album and to the track ‘Absconders’. This is the slowest horde of the album, which blares out so much you have to burst out headbanging. Really, this track can destroy. In ‘Forgotten Arrows’ someone can find these radical innovative points from the 00’s, which have incorporated by Gorguts. Plugging along at high speed, they describe in smooth way the blank misanthropy in ‘Le Toit du Monde’ track. What happened after the setting of fire, Gorguts explain to us in ‘Ember's Voice’ track, going over streamline to the dead calm of ‘The Battle of Chamdo’ depicting war’s victims.

The impression after hearing of COLORED SANDS is the following: Gorguts are not inequitably the apex death metal band of the world, but their last album is the band’s spearhead and this LP doesn’t have to be taken out from your CD player.
