Famous Underground
July 2013
Released: 2013, Dust On The Tracks
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: Celtic Bob

Famous Underground is the new band from Slick Toxik’s Nick Walsh. This band is basically his and long-time partner Laurie-Anne’s band Revolver with a name change. The name change seems to have given them a fresh outlook and given them a spark of life. Revolver was a great band that put out some enjoyable music but with the name change Walsh and Green have found the sound.

This self titled debut is a perfect mix of old and new. It picks up where ST left off after DOIN’ THE NASTY moreso than IRRELEVANT did while incorporating a more modern sound. Nick’s voice is stronger than ever and makes the songs much more powerful. His delivery of the vocals is melodic yet powerful. He still nails the highs then perfectly delivers the lows. Vocal perfection.

Musically the songs are 100% Pure Metal. They are heavy and guitar driven the way it should be. Every track has killer guitar work, even the mellower “Forever And A Day” with it’s acoustic guitar and electric in the background conjures up memories of the Metal ballads of yesteryear.

A couple of ballads mixed with 9 heavy rockers make for one killer album. Add in a couple of bonus tracks for good measure and it’s Win Win all around. This is a must own album. Easily a contender for Metal Album of the Year.
