Fall of the Leafe
September 2007
Released: 2007, Firebox Records
Rating: 1.0/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

Finnish act Fall of The Leafe is releasing their sixth album called AEROLITHE. Unfortunately, I haven’t heard the band before and my short bio didn’t make me any wiser, but I’ll give it a try anyway.

The music is a mix of Goth metal and dark rock and even if the both music styles are close to each other it feels like the band has problems deciding which of the genres they want to be in. Sure, the music is well-played and nicely packaged, but it’s incredibly boring and plastic. It all mostly fails because lead singer Tuominen doesn’t have a sad enough voice for this kind of music. It sounds like he sings in a college rock band from America.

Musically the band can be compared to Paradise Lost, but Tuominen is no Nick Holmes. The songs aren’t solid at all; they fluctuate and have no stability. They sound too similar and it’s hard to separate them from each other. I can’t name any particular song that rises above the others; they’re all way too generic. AEROLITHE was produced by the band and it seems to be a mistake not to hire a proper producer because the production suffers from all major problems just like the rest of the album.

Fall of the Leafe, please decide what kind of music you’d like to play on the next album, get a proper singer and please write better material. Then maybe you’ll have the chance to get somewhere in the future.
