One-man extreme act, File of Ghosts, has kept things busy lately. This is already this project´s 2nd effort within 6 months, a 5-track demo titled THE NEST OF DEATH.
Sami, the mastermind who carries all his musical perversions out in File of Ghosts, basically continues terrorizing us with a blend of black, death and grindcore - pushing pedal-to-the-metal and just proving to be the kind of noise monger who takes a straight road toward hellish musical extremities.
When it comes to one-man acts, File of Ghosts are definitely better than your average project and sound surprisingly balanced - excluding the drum parts for the most part. Programmed drums have always been a turn-off for me, never fitting anything else that well except for industrial metal perhaps. Also, the guitar´s sound is crispy but unfortunately thin on this demo/EP which partly eats out some of the power that this recording is obviously meant to have. Sami´s unbiased willingness to combine harsh black metal snarling with some occasional clean singing/spoken parts, has turned out to be a pretty successful recipe on 2nd baby monster, as songs like "Fragile" and "Absinth Zombies" prove it in a tasteful way.
What Sami needs to do next time, is to hire a real drummer for this project, and pay a little bit more attention to some production values of his next recording (like getting more heaviness in the guitars).
There´s some improvement here and there on this 2nd extreme noise attack of File of Ghosts, and unquestionably Sami keeps on pushing himself for the following next couple of months, in regard to getting continuum to his well started project.
This is recommended especially for those of you who want to spread your own wings within ambitious 1-man (extreme) acts. You can impress a bunch of people by your own projects, but it ain´t ever gonna be that easy. File of Ghosts is definitely getting there, little by little.
