Final Axe
The Axe Of The Apostles
August 2008
Released: 2008, Retroactive Records/Music Buy Mail/Artist Workxx
Rating: 1.5/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

Retroactive Records continues to release Christian metal and this album by Final Axe is an old one. The band recorded vocals and guitar back in 1990 but nothing more happened. Now have the band has gotten themselves together and have finally recorded the remaining parts. My bio is a little un-clear but it seems like the band have released several albums prior to this. Final Axe is more of a project than band with Menchen (Seventh Power, Titanic) on guitar, bass and keyboards. He has borrowed the Stryper drummer Robert Sweet (Seventh Power) to lay the drums and as the final piece in this trio we have singer Miles. Apparently, both Menchen and Miles original members of Final Axe.

Final Axe deliver old school heavy metal and they sound just like the bands did back in the 80’s. The music is somewhat technical and includes certain tempo changes and even though most of the songs go in the same mid-tempo they’re actually pretty heavy. It also sounds like the album and the production has stayed in the 1980’s. The production feels old and boring and most of the songs sound just like each other. The songs are about Christian issues and that’s something I can’t stand. If I am interested in those things I look them up, I do not need to get it shoved down my throat.

The entire album feels pale, lame, and weak and it’s really hard to separate the songs from each other as they all sound too similar. You have already forgotten the songs when the album is over and that’s not a good sign. I’m sorry to say that I haven’t anything positive to say about this album. It felt like a total waste of time when I listened to it. The songs are too weak, the production reeks of old 80’s feeling and it feels like the 10 songs will never end.
