Fear Factory
Digital Connectivity (DVD)
March 2002
Released: 2002, Roadrunner Records
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: EvilG

I bought this DVD one week ago. Only days after buying and watching this DVD I read that the band had broken up. I know some of the holier then thou metal purists might rejoice at this fact, but I didn’t. Back in the mid 90’s, when metal was experiencing a dry spell, Fear Factory was one of the newer bands that were breathing life into the scene with their industrialized death metal leanings. It’s unfortunate that this retrospective of Fear Factory’s career has become an unwelcome parting gift from the band to its fans.

The DVD has an excellent interface with stunning 3D graphics. Clocking in at over 80mins you’ll be treated to a chronological walk through of the bands career complete with backyard live clips, videos, interview segments, live clips, EIGHT bonus audio tracks, photo galleries, etc. The DVD basically has everything a fan could want minus a full-length pro-shot concert form each tour!! :-) So sit back and watch the band evolve over the years…count how many hair do’s vocalist Burton C. Bell had, watch the physical whiggerization of bassist Christian Olde Wolbers from death metal monster to…ummm hehe..you get the point. See Dino Caazares hanging with porn star Ron Jeremy whom he thanks for “making it possible for guys like us to get laid” haha… and of course the un-changing double bass drum master, Raymond Herrara. I’ll miss this band despite the fact they’ve never had a guitar solo…it’s their MUSIC, riffs, drums and vocals that have continually interested me with their tight machine gun like guitar and bass drum match ups to Burton’s every growing talent as a vocalist.

This DVD will not make any new fans, but it sure as hell will be something that every Fear Factory fan will want!! As one of those who count themselves as a fan, I’d like to wish all the guys in Fear Factory the best in their lives personally and hopefully professionally as they take on new roles within the realm of metal!!
