Seems to be my month for EPs. here I am with another short disc, this time from the Finnish band Elenium. I reviewed these guys last release in October of 2000. So check out that review if you want to find out more about the band. This time I will just give a quick over view of these 4 songs. To fill you in before I start, these guys play metal that is part black metal, part Gotherburg death and part Children of Bodom. A very good mixture. The Cd kicks off with the track "Worse". A great tune with some great keyboard work including piano. This gives it a great overall atmosphere. Vocalist Jukka Pelkonen alternates between clean and death vocals making this one of the best songs on this disc. "Shadowed Grandeur" is a more tarditional black metal song ala Dimmu Borgir. Again lots of keyboard atmosphere. Keyboards play a central part in the classically based instrumental "Omega". The closer is "From Within Chaos". Again Pelkonen mixes up the vocals on this Cd and the keys play haunting melodies while everything else is pummelled into dust.



The last I had heard Elenium were supposed to have had 15 songs recorded for a new CD. I had been hoping that this was it. When these guys do finally release a full length cd I am sure they will find a following for their mixture of styles. Till then these songs just serve to whet my appetite.
