Execution is Everything
In & Out (Demo)
August 2002
Released: 2002, Independent
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: EvilG

Carrollton, GA, U.S.A. heavy groove metallers Execution is Everything (EIE) have returned with a new demo entitled IN & OUT. The promo kit that arrived with the demo was quite impressive for an unsigned band. Clearly the band have some strong opinions on U.S.A. gun and execution laws…ideas which don’t matter much to me because I’m more interested in the metal here, not the message. The band is comprised of Matt Bailey (rhythm guitar & vocals), Ryan Landry (drums), Chris Buchanan (guitars) and newer member Seth Clovis (lead guitar). His addition was a good move because the lead guitar department has improved on this demo (their second) – even though even more solos couldn’t hurt! IN & OUT shows the band growing and progressing to the point where if the right ears hear them, they could potentially be offered the illusive recording contract.

Onto the songs on this 4 song demo…things kick off with “Time Against Me.” This is a catchy track that borders at times on radio friendliness, which could be played on rock radio if the stations had a little more balls. The song is a hard rocking number with great vocals. The vocal department has improved as this sounds smoother and more polished form the last outing. In fact, the entire production has greatly improved for the band giving them a professional sounding demo to shop around. The second track, “Execution is Everything”, is heavier with nice, thick, crunching guitars and a bit of that Black Label Society vibe that I noticed on the first demo. Then its “Be on You” where there is bit of a later day Entombed feel. The vocals don’t get as “brutal” but this is the song on which they sound the most aggressive. The last track on the four-song demo is “No More” which begins with a killer “Wylde” riff complete with artificial harmonics that Mr. Wylde is a fanatic for. This song was also on the 2001 demo. I’m not sure why they re-did it rather than add another new track…perhaps because this is the demo they hope to get out there into the right hands. The vocal line with the yelled part “Noooo moooreeeaaahhh” sounds like a Pantera structured melody line that is not unlike the song “Mouth For War.” However, the music is not a whole lot like Pantera because it’s never quite as fast or intense. EIE has more in common with BLS, later day Entombed, Down, and other heavy grooving metal bands…so if those bands interest you, chances are you’ll immediately love what EIE has to offer.
