Face Behind a Face
July 2001
Released: n/a, Independent
Rating: 2.5/5
Reviewer: Rick

This Cd is only available in Finland and I was pretty lucky to get my hands on it. This is a 4 song release so again this review will be kinda brief. I have no info about this band other than the fact that they are from Finland and the lineup consists of Aleksi Parvianen: vocals, Teppo Parvianen: guitar, Markus Hellas: Keys, Asko Kauppinen: bass and Kenneth Bergstrom: drums. I would classify these guys in the mellow progressive metal/rock vein. Opening track "Station to Station" is the catchiest track on the disc. It has a bouncing bass line that immediately draws the listener to the song. "Stories" contains some tasteful soloing by guitarist Parvianen. Closing track "Waiting" finishes out the disc on the same sombre note that underlies the whole release.

Euphrosyne have created an interesting release with ‘Face Behind The Face". Like the band Event that I reviewed a month ago it’s a debate as to how metal these guys are. They do have metallic elements that will appeal to the metal crowd but they need to jack up the pace on some of their songs as they are a bit too mellow for my taste.
