Eternal Tears Of Sorrow
Chaotic Beauty
March 2001
Released: 2000, Spinefarm Records
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: El Cid

This album came highly recommended from the guy at my local CD store and being that he has pretty much the same taste in music as I do I most always believe him when he tells me an album is a must have. I ran home to check the CD review database to check for some fellow metalhead’s view on this album, but I couldn’t find anything at all so I went ahead (against all my habits) and downloaded 2 songs from napster. The result of this was to run off to the metal store and pick the album up immediately.

Eternal tears of sorrow might be labeled by some (like Armageddon’s child and that horned black entity that roams the message board) as another Gothenburg clone that needs to be swallowed by a huge vortex along with all the other bands that tried to follow Dark Tranquillity and At the Gates’ path and failed, but this is not the case at all.

From the opening track (Shattered soul) this CD delivers a powerful mix of keyboards, guitar work and deathish vox that will hook you up instantly if you’re a Gothenburg sound fan. The highlights of this album, to my taste are Bride of the crimson sea (which features guest vocals by Synergy’s Kimerbly Goss) and Black tears (arranged by metal mastermind Dan Swanö).

So if you fancy the Gothenburg sound and have a few extra bucks (or a free CD and time to burn) I highly recommend you pick this up immediately since you won’t be disappointed at all.
