Storm of Swords
Released: 2011, Independent

Enormicon are from Denton, Texas’ and have recently self-released ‘Storm of Swords’. With their sound being a mixture of traditional style stoner rock, doom, and old progressive music, balancing the heaviest influences from bands such as High on Fire, Black Sabbath, Tool, Voivod, and Mastodon,
they have a warlike theme based on an original concept. The band have steered clear of political or social commentary, but rely instead on the brutal imagery and legends of a primordial dimension known as Gargantua.
This isn’t my favourite style of metal but I did really enjoy the first track ‘Slaghammer’, but for me the rest of the tracks just made me lose interest. The songs seem to lack enthusiasm and have the same feel and sound to them which made me get bored quickly. I really do like the vocal style but to be honest it was the only one track that I actually liked.
I can’t say everyone will agree with me, and if you like the old style stoner bands out there, then you may appreciate this release more than me.
