Dark Sky
Empty Faces
August 2008
Released: 2008, AOR Heaven/Border Music
Rating: 1.0/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

Dark Sky is a band from Germany that has been in the business since way back in the 80’s. The band was put to rest at the end of the 80’s because of label problems. Almost a decade later the band reunited and added new members. They hooked a deal with a label in Asia and in 1998 Dark Sky released their come back album titled BELIEVE IT. The album wasn’t released in Europe until two years later. When the band went into the studio to record their second come back album the guitarist choose to leave the band and was replaced by a former member of the band. EDGE OF TIME was released in 2002 and in 2004 they signed to AOR Heaven. LIVING AND DYING was in stores by 2005. During 2005-06 the band totally focused on writing new material and playing live.

The music of Dark Sky is nothing but classic melodic hardrock with a European twist and flavor. Dark Sky’s music has a lot in common with acts like Bonfire, Jaded Heart, the later version of Europe and TNT. But Dark Sky hasn’t got an inch of personality like the above mentioned acts have. This band has not got anything that says that this is Dark Sky. Instead, they sound like any other semi-anonymous act that tries to make it to the top. Unfortunately, I don’t think they have got what it takes to make it big time. 10 songs are swept through and not one of them stays in my mind when I have listened to the album. They do a cover of Michael Sembello’s smash hit “Maniac” but it has to be the palest version of the song I have ever heard.

Most of the songs sound just like each other and nothing really stands out at all. These guys really need to find their own identity before they pollute the market with poor album of this caliber. I have nothing positive to say about this album at all, sorry guys.
