Dust Components
s/t
April 2000
Released: 1999, Psychic Scream Rating: 3.0/5 Reviewer: Rick Dust Components are a 3 piece thrash metal band from Malaysia. The average age of the band is only 20 years old but these guys have been around since 1996 when the band was formed to jam on covers. They released their first demo in 1997 titled "Censorship will Not Remain As Long As We Complain". The current lineup consists of Elton Lee: Drums. Rizal Khan: Vocals and Bass and Whye Kong: Guitars. This release consists of 7 songs. The opener is "Ashes to Ashes" followed by "Cremation (Dust Particles)" . The music is great but the vocals are lacking. Next up is "Tied Down" This song has a plodding guitar riff with some great drumming. This is probably the best song on the CD. The vocals are stronger on this song and the arrangement of the track is very good. Up next is "Victim of the Holocaust". Again this song has outstanding drumming from Elton Lee. This a sort of mid tempo track that breaks down towards the end. "Antisocial Leadership" has an Anthrax feel to the riff but I have a small concern about this song in that the vocals are so buried in the mix that I didn’t realize that even was a vocal till I played it the second time. Towards the end it comes back into the mix. The CD finishes out with "Unrivaled" and "Dust To Dust". Both decent tracks with "Unrivaled" having a slight Machinehead feel. Overall this is a decent disc from a group of guys who are only 20. They are decent songwriters and their musicianship will only get better. My only problem is the vocals. They need major work. These guys have the talent but need to fine tune their approach and work on their vocals before they will make a major break out.
