Doro
Fear No Evil
November 2009
Released: 2009, AFM
Rating: 2.0/5
Reviewer: Alan Gilkeson

Because twenty years ago she was a pin-up poster, Doro receives more acclaim than any other woman in Metal, despite a lackluster voice and a string of formulaic records. The album covers grow more ridiculous and Manowar-ish, even WARRIOR SOUL featured Doro's ass, perfectly symmetrical. I've seen Doro Pesch, her ass hasn't looked like that in twenty years.

FEAR NO EVIL continues where Doro left off with the aforementioned disc, simple songs, obligatory ballads, sounding like a bad soundtrack to a B movie. In the 80s it may have worked a bit, because we were inundated with similar music. Nowadays we get the joke, we know how awful a lot of that stuff was, yet Doro continues on, bad voice and all, and on FEAR NO EVIL we also get a crappy production to fill it all out. From opener 'Night of the Warlock', where she consistently misses the high note, and the ballad 'Walking With the Angels', where Tarja Turunen joins in and completely out sings her, Doro still lives off the legend of the hot Heavy Metal chick.

Let's not forget the cliched lyrics and completely out of place guitar solos. 'Celebrate' is yet another ode to Heavy Metal, forced anthem and all, meant to raise some fists, but comes off as maudlin as a 10 year old girl who has lost her puppy. The album closes with a boring tribute to her fans and she whispers 'I love you' in a sappy voice, breaking into a boring, voice crackling chorus. It's all like this people, awful, awful, awful.
