Dimension Zero
Penetrations from the Lost World
February 1999
Released: 1998, WAR Music
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Nathan Robinson

Yet another slab of melodic death metal from Sweden. This side project of In Flames' guitarist Jesper Stromblad and ex-guitarist Glenn Ljungstrom goes back to the Lunar Strain days of yore. This mini CD contains three songs of energetic, angst-ridden fury, complete with enough blast beats to turn your brains into pulp (courtesy of ex-Liers in Wait skinsman Hans Nilsson). But amongst the relentless aggression there is plenty of melody to lift and brighten your spirit, yet only to be pummeled again in an avalanche of dual guitar hysteria. But no Swedish death metal album would be complete without acoustic guitars. Enter "Everlasting Neverness". This acoustic instrumental is another soothing classic, which serves on this MCD to treat the wounds inflicted by the previous three tracks.

If you preferred Lunar Strain to the rest of In Flames' catalog, I recommend you check this out. This may also appeal to Dark Tranquillity fans.

And for you collectors out there, the Japanese version of this CD contains one bonus track…a cover of Sepultura's "Troops of Doom". This track can also be found on the Sepultura tribute album entitled Sepulchural Feast. While Dimension Zero does an excellent rendition of the song, it is not worth going through the effort and spending the extra money to get the Japanese version.
