Dragonlord
Rapture
August 2001
Released: 2001, Spitfire Records Rating: 4.5/5 Reviewer: El Cid Wooooooo...this is real ear candy! Let me start by saying that for all of you who dig super-bands made up from members of other really successful bands (Armageddon, Dimension Zero, Synergy…) you’ll love this one! If you judged by the name of the band that you should expect some power metal, I’m sorry to disappoint you but you won’t see hobbits running around your room with this CD. Here are the names involved in this one: Eric Peterson - Vox/Guitar (Testament) Steve Digiorgio Bass - (Death/Testament) Steve Smyth - Guitar (Testament) Jon Allen - Drums (Sadusßthis alone should make you buy the CD) Lyle Livingston- Keyboards (Psypheria …huh?) Amazingly, after listening to this CD I realized something… I realized THIS IS HOW CoF and Dummy Burger ARE TRYING TO SOUND!! This is the mix of black and thrash that those clowns are trying to pull off but just lack the skill or vision (or both) to do it right! I’m in no way saying that DB or CoF are trying to rip these guys off (because this one came out later) but this is the sound that the 2 most overrated bands in metal are trying to achieve. When I first heard this one I also started thinking back to older Sadus albums, there’s just something I can’t quite put my middle finger on… Musically there’s nothing left to be desired here - great guitar work, excellent voice for this type of music and just INSANE drumming! Jon Allen really has me surprised and I’m ranking high in my drummer’s scale, he plays very technical and yet extremely fast drum work in this one! In a whole, this CD is VERY much worth the money and if you were thinking of buying CoF or Dummy then I urge you to reconsider and give this one a try, you won’t be disappointed!
