Devil's Heaven
Heaven On Earth
March 2014
Released: 2014, Helldiver
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: Helias Papadopoulos

I really like always when a good heavy metal album is out and Devil’s Heaven debut album, HEAVEN ON EARTH, is a really good album! Many people probably know Jonas Reingold (bass guitar) due to his recent work with Mike Portnoy and Neal Morse. The musicians here are high skilled and professionals ad their musicianship as well. They are not such idiot teens who are driven by the youth heat. They know exactly what they do. And HEAVEN ON EARTH is the proof.

Lengthy opener ‘Welcome II The Show’ is a study in what Devil’s Heaven is. It’s an up-tempo track with a great chorus, raging and clean vocals and heavy guitars and a wonderful keyboards part in the middle of the song. This song shows Marcus Nygren’s vocal versatility. ‘Demerital Action’ is the absolute and integral part of the live setlist. With a touch of early Bon Jovi, and a catchy chorus, all the fans (and not) will sing along the lyrics.

This is an album in the veins of early Bon Jovi, Gotthard, Monster Magnet, with the emotional ballads (‘Touched by An Angel’, ‘Cold’), the heavy moments (‘Day of Room’, ‘Riders In The Sky’), the funny and rock’n’roll parts (‘Let It All Hang Out’, ‘Hot Sex’) together with the highlights (‘Devil Woman’, ‘Dimerital Action’, ‘Wine Me’). This is a lovely and nice album about sex, religion and party! Maybe Quiet Riot fans can take a look for it.

To sum up, HEAVEN ON EARTH is the first work of an experienced Swedish sextet who have executive training, compositional ingenuity and sense of melody that characterizes their countrymen. Here you will find beautifully crafted songs, but most other hard and with more heavy style, not directly resemble something older, through a really meticulous production. With the sound clear, all instruments sound neat. The vocals of Marcus Nygren are adorable and exemplary for every heavy metal singer. I am always happy and glad when good music is out!

You may not have heard of Devil’s Heaven, but doubtless you will be doing so more in the future. With a fresh take on the hard rock/heavy metal dynamic, this, their debut album, provides a master class in modern AOR/hard rock/metal.
