Devastation Complete 1987 -1989
May 2010
Released: 2010, AreaDeath Productions
Rating: 1.5/5
Reviewer: Luxi Lahtinen

I normally like all these old-school, (almost) forgotten releases that the Chinese label, AreaDeath Productions, puts out from their factory. Their back catalogue is relatively impressive and well thought out, including some very special releases of US metal bands Deceased (the WORSHIP THE COFFIN box; limited to 200 copies) and Insanity (the CHRONICLES OF THE CURSED box; limited to 200 copies) – among so many other releases that are basically connected to each other by the words ´old-school´.

Unfortunately this Croatian speed/thrash act that goes under the moniker Devastation, does not belong to the same league with some of their other releases that tend to send some bigger thrills through one´s mind, and/or body. They are, sadly, pretty darn far from doing so.

Our Croatian thrashers sound like a bunch of 13-15 year old school kids at best who seriously wanted to jump into the thrash bandwagon in the late 80s – just hoping to get their insufficiently thin and hilarious mustaches growing faster (every teenager wants to be an adult at some point of their life, right?), possibly to get laid by forming this group in the first place - and perhaps even hoping to get recognized by a fistful of people, 2 weeks right after the formation of the band. Anyway, their songs simply are pretty much like an epitome of all things noisy and shitty. It all sounds like the guys have only had a couple of rehearsals when getting all this stuff recorded for their 2 demos that have ever existed officially from them. Covering S.O.D.´s “United Forces” on their first demo may have been a cool idea from them – yeah, but then again if listening to it makes your ears bleed blood and some other excretions of human body while at the same time having this desperate and pitiful look spread all over your twisted face, you pretty much give up all your hope with them at the very first meters already, without ever reaching the goal.

I am pretty sure that in their homeland, Croatia, some metalheads can actually appreciate this release more than I do (I certainly admit the packing is somewhat beautiful and superb on this release, as is the case with most of the A.D.P. releases as well). Besides I am way too busy at the moment to take care of my dirty laundry, so excuse me…
