Den Saakaldte
Faen i Helvete
May 2014
Released: 2014, Agonia Records
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: UK Team

With members of egendary bands such as Gorgoroth involved with Den Saakaldte, it was always going to be a project that promised a lot, and much of the album fully lived up to the expectations I had of it.

The first two opening tracks; Din Siste Dag and Forbanna Idioter were classic blasts of black metal fury with absolutely pounding, shredding riffage and lines that will make any fan of the genre want to jump around like a lunatic.

I assumed that we were in for a treat and was presently surprised at the direction the next two songs took, as although the blasting and uncompromising black metal was there, there was a much greater doom and progressive feel to it. Particularly on Endelost Ode, which by far was the standout track on the album. With it's beautiful atmospherics yet borderline demoniacal musicianship creating a fantastic juxtaposition.

The album did fade slightly after this, although Ondskapens Nodvendighet had its moments the rest of the tracks couldn’t quite live up to the quality of its former songs, but this is an album and a band worth listening to.
