Dan Swano
January 1999
Released: 1998, Black Mark Productions
Rating: 5.0/5
Reviewer: Nathan Robinson

Have you ever, after listening to an album, felt like climbing on top of your house, raising both arms, giving the sign of Metal with both hands, and belching a Dan Swano style "heeyyyyy!!!!!!" at the top of your lungs? Well you will after listening to this album! After seven fantastic albums with Edge of Sanity, Dan Swano strikes back with another death metal masterpiece. This time, he takes his song writing to a new level with the addition of some spacey keyboards. But don’t fear, Dan knows his shit when it comes to keyboards. In fact, he wrote and played everything on this album!

Open minded Edge of Sanity/Dan Swano fans surely need this album. The music in many ways resembles some of the material off Dan’s last four albums with Edge of Sanity. The music also brings to mind Amorphis, particularly Tales From the Thousand Lakes, and even Dream Theater at times. But this album is altogether different than anything I’ve heard. The music is eclectic, mixing heavy and melodic guitars with acoustic guitars, piano-like keyboards and spacey ‘70’s-ish keyboards. And the music is so fucking spiritually uplifting at times, which provides a nice contrast to the dark lyrics and death vocals. Yes, Dan uses his unmistakable death vocals on this one, with just a touch of his clean voice.

This album is for those of you who were disappointed with Dan’s departure from Edge of Sanity, as well as with their latest album Cryptic (which is still good regardless). It is also for people into both death metal and progressive metal. (There is also a Moontower CD single that has three tracks from the it’s not worth getting.)
