Derision
Ancient
February 2012
Released: 2011, Futile Records Rating: 2.5/5 Reviewer: Metal-Rules.com UK Team After their EP release in 2009, Derision are back for their debut album ‘Ancient’ and I’m always happy to review new metal bands, especially ones from England! These guys have an intense and energetic sound and it is no surprise their EP received good feedback and they have been gaining fans quickly. These guys have a great aggressive sound with fast, impressive guitar riffs and drumming, as well as being able to slow the tempo down for the intros to their tracks, but there is definitely something missing in the album and after a few songs I did find myself becoming bored. The band aren’t exactly ‘original’ or seem to bring anything new or different and the vocals, although aggressive do seem to remain the same throughout without much variation which made this an easy-listening metal band, but the guitar riffs are worth listening to alone, cause the musicianship is impressive, but unfortunately repetitive. Their album was mixed at Parlour Studios with producer Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir) and shows great production. It is great to see the band doing well, and I’m sure they will get there and hopefully improve as they go on. I’ve seen them afew times on Scuzz TV and would like to see them when they tour later this year, cause I’m sure these guys will be better live, they need to add abit more variety so they stand out amount the many other metal bands out there today!
