Deep Purple
Live At Montreux (DVD)
December 2006
Released: 2006, Eagle Eye Media
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: Celtic Bob

One of the pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal music are featured here in a live setting at the Montreux Jazz Festival. The majority of the disc is their 1996 performance, there are a few bonus tracks from their 200 performance as well.

Gillian, Glover, Lord and Paice still got it and haven't aged a bit. Gillian just belts out the classics as though it was still the early 70's. His voice is still remarkable. His performance on "Smoke On The Water" is stunning to say the least. Add in Glovers' steady bass, Jon's organ and some of the heaviest drumming you will ever hear in your life, and you will be aurally fullfilled. The only thing missing is that signature Blackmore guitar sound. While Steve Morse is an amazying player, he is not Ritchie. He does a good job, but for Purple fans, you just know something is missing.

Crystal clear video and an amazing DTS mix, make this one a must own DVD concert.
