The Negation
April 2004
Released: 2004, Earache
Rating: 4.8/5
Reviewer: Lord of the Wasteland

Poland’s Decapitated are back with THE NEGATION, one of the most brutal death metal releases since, well, the last Decapitated record! These guys are young but play with an energy and passion that is well beyond their years. The drums are tight, the solos and riffs are killer and Sauron’s death growl is as menacing as ever.

“The Fury” is a blazingly fast track that opens the CD and features an amazing solo by Vogg. “Three-Dimensional Effect” and the title track are a bit slower-paced (for Decapitated anyway) and Vogg once again pulls brilliant solos out of his bag of tricks. “Sensual Sickness” delivers some stunning riffs and brutal drumming from Vitek. The track features a middle section that is certainly an experiment to the typical Decapitated sound. It is slower and technical but retains the heaviness of a death metal record. “Calling,” a short instrumental track, comes out of nowhere with riffs and weird sound effects that most death bands would never DARE put on their record! What Decapitated have succeeded with on THE NEGATION is taking their songwriting up a notch and it is on breaks and tempo changes like this that sets the band apart from the hundreds of other 90s Florida death metal clones.

THE NEGATION is one of the strongest death metal releases in a while. The drumming is top-notch, the guitars are sharp as a knife and the songwriting raises the bar on what is to be expected out of a death metal band. This CD should take Decapitated to the next level and any fan of extreme music is doing him or herself a great disservice by not having it in their collection.
