Death Dealer
Hallowed Ground
October 2015
Released: 2015, SMG Records
Rating: 5.0/5
Reviewer: Robert Williams

Only two years have passed since heavy metal supergroup Death Dealer released their awe-inspiring debut full length "War Master" and this October herald's their much anticipated return with new album HALLOWED GROUND via Sweden Music Group. Still featuring current and former members of Cage, Manowar, Lizzy Borden and Empires of Eden in their ranks, the only line-up change being the departure of Kenny "Rhino" Earl Edwards on drums and the addition of Steve Bolognese (ex-Into Eternity) in his place.

HALLOWED GROUND picks up right where the scorching "War Master" left off with a six-string shootout at high noon on the rebel rousing "Gunslinger". The band's delivery is fast paced and action packed as lead vocalist Sean Peck belts out the infectious chorus "Gunslinger, soul stealer. Death Dealer, reach for the sky!" On "Break The Silence" the band rebels against the system to a mid-paced, thumping and thunderous march of decimating power metal. You gotta love the cinematic opening moments of "Plan Of Attack" "Sean wait... we need a plan of attack..." to which Mr. Peck cordially responds "I have a plan...Attack!" This track is relentless and hellbent on destruction and next to "Gunslinger" probably my favorite track on HALLOWED GROUND.

From the fantastic cartoonish fantasy artwork on the cover of HALLOWED GROUND to the more supernatural or sinister rooted tracks such as "Séance" & "U-666" the band incorporate their collective interest in dark fantasy imagery alongside the usual violence and bloodshed resulting in thirteen songs every metalhead should enjoy. The flamenco-styled nylon-stringed acoustic guitar interlude of "Llega El Diablo" leads us into a seriously pummeling bruiser entitled "The Way Of The Gun" that showcases an excellent guitar solo courtesy of Ross "The Boss" Friedman alongside some really stellar fills by the band's new skinsman Steve Bolognese.

"K.I.L.L." shreds in it's opening moments with face-melting glory and should prove to be a live favorite as it's instantly catchy hooks will sink it's teeth into your flesh and justifies countless repeated listens as Ross & Stu harmonize their leads at lightning speed while Steve and Mike lock rhythmically full-tilt and Sean delivers those over the top screams like only he can.

I'll be honest, I cannot get enough Death Dealer. These guys have been the best thing going since they emerged in 2013 and have finally given me a new band to get excited about. One can only hope they get the support they need to take their show on the road and do some extensive touring behind their killer new album HALLOWED GROUND. I'd highly recommend this album to all members of the metal faith!
