Don't Worry I Got You Man
September 2015
Released: 2015, Self Released
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Aaron Yurkiewicz

Grab your skateboards and get ready to skank like it’s 1987 again. DON’T WORRY I GOT YOU MAN is the debut EP from Montreal thrashers Dealer, and revels in the joys of early Suicidal Tendencies, D.R.I. and The Accüsed across five tracks of crossover thrash fury.

Far from a retro/nostalgia shtick (I’m talking to you Joel Grind), DON’T WORRY I GOT YOU MAN is as serious an album today as JOIN THE ARMY was decades ago. With riffs knicked straight from Kerry King’s back pocket and a snot nosed delivery that would make Kurt Brecht proud, Dealer is the kind of band that makes you realize how important and underappreciated that crossover scene was in the 80’s. The five tunes waste no time in getting your attention,

The five tunes shred with volatile speed and galloping riffs, easing off the accelerator just long enough to rant chant a chorus, stalk the pit, catch a breath and then dive back into the melee. Standout tracks like “Hell in A Cell” and “Game of Death” sound like they would’ve been right at home on FOUR OF A KIND or even a Nuclear Assault EP from back in the day, but still manage to retain their own sense of character. It’s tough to balance homage with originality, but Dealer manages to pull it off swimmingly.

And the best part, wait for it…Is that DON’T WORRY I GOT YOU MAN is available through Dealer’s Bandcamp page as a Name Your Price download. So to recap – 1) You’ve got some quality thrash metal from a new band that has the right chops, and 2) It’s free. I’m eager to hear more from Dealer, fingers crossed that there’s a proper full length in their future. In the meantime, go to Dealer’s Bandcamp page and check out DON’T WORRY I GOT YOU MAN.
