June 2002
Released: 2002, Independent
Rating: 2.5/5
Reviewer: Waspman

Coming out of the metal mecca of Ogden, Utah, Davidian have been together for four years, though UNPURIFIED is their first demo. If the sound on this disc is any indicator, most bands should wait this long before releasing anything! Clear and professional, this demo sounds great. You can also hear that the band has been together for awhile, since they sound extremely tight, which is a definite plus considering the band’s chosen style: thrashy groove metal.

So then, why only a 2.5 out of 5? Simply because the material on the disc, despite being high quality, is so derivative. The sad fact is that there is nothing much on here that wasn’t done earlier by Machine Head on their first two discs. I mean really, these songs could be outtakes from BURN MY EYES. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a style that I enjoy, but I’ll throw on some Machine Head if that’s what I want to hear.

For a first effort, this is good stuff and can definitely be used as a building block for the band. And hey, it’s not like Machine Head is doing anything worthwhile anymore, so a band that plays in their old style is kinda welcome.

Side note: you can snap up this disc for yourself for $5.
